Zwiebeln in der Sonne
A photograph of
Gerda Leo made in 1929.
Her work is considered part of the
'Neues Sehen'.
"None of the onions are depicted in their entirety, nor is the wooden board. The arrangement is detached from its surroundings by these cropped sections and condensed to the essentials. The harsh sunlight creates strong shadows, which enlarge the organic form of the two upper onions and form the centre of the image with the shadowy round of the wooden board."
